Elvis Presley Blue Moon of KentuckyWritten by Bill MonroeRecorded July 6, 1954 at Sun Records with Bill Black on bass and Scotty Moore on guitar. It is on the Sun Sessions CD Commemorative Issue and The King of Rock and Roll-The Complete 50s Masters, which is where this version is from. Blue moon, blue moon, blue moon, keep shining bright.Blue moon, keep on shining bright,You're gonna bring me back my baby tonight,Blue moon, keep shining bright.I said blue moon of Kentuckykeep on shining,Shine on the one that's gone and left me blue.I said blue moon of Kentuckykeep on shining,Shine on the one that's gone and left me blue.Well, it was on one moonlight night,Stars shining bright, whisper on highLove said good-bye.Blue moon of KentuckyKeep on shining.Shine on the one that's gone and left me blue.Well, I said blue moon of KentuckyJust keep on shining.Shine on the one that's gone and left me blue. I said blue moon of Kentuckykeep on shining.Shine on the one that's gone and left me blue.Well, it was on one moonlight night,Stars shining bright, whisper on highLove said good-bye.Blue moon of KentuckyKeep on shining.Shine on the one that's gone and left me blue.

Much of the magic of those early Sun Sessions from Elvis can be attributed to Sam Phillips' use of tape echo that gave that great addictive sound. Elvis' Sun period from 1954 to 1955 is my favorite. They tried to re-capture the "Sun Sound" at RCA when they recorded 'Heartbreak Hotel' in 1956, but RCA could never quite get it right. The music back then had a magic, atmospheric sound to it that is sadly lacking in todays music.
