I had the same problem until i found out it's actually very easy!All you have to do, is go on the main gimp box file//dialogues//layers and add on channels and paths ! easy (:

If the picture's on your computer, right-click on it and click 'Edit with Gimp'.

The tutorial would be useful if you're used to GIMP, but for beginners, it's hard to understand what's even going on.
