TRANSLATION TO ENGLISH:(Sorry I had to split this up into few posts, just read from the top to the bottom... adn don't comment any more! my translation will get lost! ;) )In this tutorial we wanna create a logo for the web, but it can also be used for prints.First, let's start GIMP. Create a new document and set the background color to #414141.
netsnake24 (August 25, 2008 at 7:12 am)
Now, take the text-tool and set the foreground color to white. We eill write two texts now, one in white, the other one in a light grey. Now we move the second text a bit nearer to the other, using the moving-tool. (Or I don't know exactly how the tools are called in English, I have a German Interface)So, let's take tha Paths-tool and click on these few points. Before we do the last one, we hold CTRL, and click on the first point, so we can connect the two ends.
netsnake24 (August 25, 2008 at 7:12 am)
Now, we drag the lower line down a bit, and with the dotted lines which show up at both ends, we can make the ends go fluent into the other line, if we point it right. (I hope you know what I mean, look at the video, after exactly 2 minutes he does axactly that)Now we can play around bit, until we have a nice shape that fits into our design.
netsnake24 (August 25, 2008 at 7:11 am)
Now, select "Selection"->"From Path" or sth like that. (The path will turn into a selection now)Make the foreground color a dark, the background color a light blue (or the other way round, I'm not sure) and select the gradient tool. Now, you have to select the shape of your gradient, select the first shape that has an arrow-icon on the left.

simply drag the cursor like shwon in the video and you'll get your logo. What he's doing next is just playing around a bit with the contrast and the lightness, so only little adjustments.HAVE FUN!netsnake
